Fresh peas at farmer's markets yet?

Was pleased to find the mild "green garlic" at the Temescal market last weekend. And we are seeing some nice asparagus and artichokes around.

Anyone see fresh peas yet, or have an inkling as to when they will arrive?

At today's (thursday 11am to 3pm) farmers market in the Crocker Galleria in FiDi, the Asian farmer on the Sutter street side has English peas for $3/lb. Lots of greens and many exotic herbs for a buck a bunch.

Finally found fantastic, sweet, tender English peas today at the Oakland Grand Lake Farmer's Market. $4 per lb. and worth it. I was too busy greedily filling up a bag with them to properly notice the name of the vendor.

Sugar snaps at the UN Plaza market today. $1.50 to $2.00 a pound. Good quality. Not fresh from the garden, but as good as you might expect from any market. I just finished snacking on some. I expect they will show up in other farmer's market this week.

I bought English peas yesterday at the UN Plaza; haven't cooked them yet so can't judge the quality. Didn't pay attention to price either...

Where are you finding your peas, and how much did three cups shelled set you back?

Pea pods and pea shoots come in earlier than English peas.

Iacopi Farm! - They are located at the Ferry Building Saturday's Market on the horizontal row in the middle, beginning with Marin Sun Farms on the Bay side. http://www.cuesa.org/markets/farmers/...

I believe for a massive bag of peas in the pod, the going rate was $8.00...you could get a smaller bag, but I don't recall the price.

            I hope this helps!

None at Berkeley on Saturday! I was hoping.

Swanton had them at both Ferry Plaza and the next day at Marin Civic Center, I don't know how they missed Berkeley.

Now that's interesting. People often claim that the prices are higher at Ferry Plaza. Was it toward the end of the day?

No, I left there by 7:30. Strawberries were $18 a half flat. I paid $20 a half flat in Marin on Thursday. Someone once told me that the Swanton people had a fair amount of leeway in the prices they charge.

Lincoln Peas were available last week at Iacopi and Swanton, probably some others too.

No peas at Swanton in Berkeley when I went by on Tuesday. If they had any they sold out before 5.

None at Swanton today in Marin. The Asian farm had them.

Found some Favas and Fresh English Peas at the Ferry Building FM. I had a bunch of veggies over and BBQed some amazing jumbo asparagus, green garlic, spring onions, and potatoes. I would have picked up the Peas and/or Favas if we werent planning around a BBQ.
