In Hyattsville Sunday evening

Can someone recommend a restaurant in Hyattsville/Kenilworth/College Park area that offers as close as possible to Tex-Mex food? Not Salvadorean, Gautamalan, interior Mexican, etc., but Tex-Mex? Thank you in advance.

  1. The only place I can think of is Chevy's in Greenbelt. The last time I went there it wasn't very good.

A little further away is Gringada, in Laurel. I haven't been there in years, but I've heard that it has reall gone downhill.

I think there's still a Don Pablo's in Laurel, and for a chain it's not bad.

I have to edit this because I forgot about the Alamo in Hyattsville. They have Tex-Mex and Salvadorean. And a very impressive tequila menu.

How about El Gavilan (8805 Flower Ave. Silver Spring/Takoma Park, MD)
      or La Palapa Too (Laurel)

The Alamo -- now that's a propitious name for a Tex-Mex place! Thanks very much. I'd definitely pass on Don Pablos and Chevy's -- you get either inedible food or iffy service and sometimes both.

        Thanks for the recommendation, 4X4!

El Gavilan is too Salvadorean for my taste, but thanks!

        2. There's a new Mexican place on Rte 1 in Hyattsville beside the Ethiopian coffeehouse house. I want to say it's called the Rio Grande, but I'm not sure if it's Tex-Mex though.

That's it! I drove by Saturday evening and went 'd'oh!' when I saw the sign.
