Santa Barbara/Goleta casual w/teens?

  • 3

I'm taking my daughter and her friend to check out UCSB -- Sunday we will be at the beach/pier and maybe State St. for dinner -- where is a good place near State St. shopping for dinner Sunday night, not too pricey, fun for teens?
We'll probably do El Bajio for lunch Sunday -- is that the best Mexican other than La Super Rica, which I've been to many times?
Where's a good place for lunch Monday after touring the campus -- casual place where students hang out?
thanks!

  1. I'd recommend The Palace Grill for a restaurant around State St, cajun style food with truly amazing bread pudding (a must-order). As for a campus spot where students hang out you'd probably just want to go to Pardall, Sam's To Go and Freebirds are classics, but I would more regularly find myself at Super Cuca's when I lived in IV.

    1. El Bajio is fantastic- I sugest trying their tamales, fish stew and or rajas & pork tacos. I love Super Rica- but adore El Bajio!!!!

Monday- after touring UCSB- the Beachside is great- at the base of the pier located just E of the campus- great salads, crab cakes and a view! Alot of college kids work here, but it is very well run. It is our go to restaurant when dropping a family member at the airport.

Sunday dinner- maybe Paradise Cafe on Anacapa- great burgers!

great info at www.santabarbara.com/dining- you can use their filtering service to find someplace close to campus/cheap/expensive/Italian etc., John Dickson has a great amount of information here!

Good Luck- UCSB is a great school- so many never leave the area after school is over!!

      1. The Palace is definitely a great place to have dinner along State St. There's also Pascucci, which is an ok Italian place, but a lot of young people go there and it's very inexpensive. For eating near campus, the other suggested options that are in IV are all of the places that the students will be eating at, so if that's what you're looking for, then it's perfect. If you don't want to actually eat in IV, I would recommend the Beachside, which is a great restaurant right on the beach near the Anacapa dorms. It's a beautiful location right by the pier and very reasonably priced. My parents took me here when I was doing my campus tours and I loved it! Have fun in Santa Barbara, I definitely had an amazing 4 years there!
