Good Rabbit?

For some reason, I'm craving rabbit a good rabbit dish. I live in Silver Lake, but willing to travel (within reason). Fancy-schmancy places are fine, but mid-range down to dirt-cheap are great too. Any recommendations?

The best rabbit dish I ever had was a few years ago on the Spago tasting menu. I was told that they only get enough rabbit for Thursdays through Saturdays, and, then, only enough to use in the tasting menu. But it might be worth calling to see if they can do a rabbit dish. Lee Hefter told me he loves cooking rabbit, and it shows.

Is there still a french place on Vermont across from the Dresden Room? I don't live in the area any more, but I had a very good rabbit three ways there a year or so ago.

Grace has an amazing rabbit dish. Very rich, served two different ways...probably the best thing on their menu which is saying a lot as Grace is always spectacular. I don't think it's on their regular menu, but their seasonal one, so be sure to ask if they are serving it when you make a ressie.

At least one of the poultry places in the Farmer's Market has fresh rabbit. I've gotten it frozen from Hawaii Supermarket in San Gabriel, for a whole lot less. The Farm Fresh market on Orange Grove in Pasadena used to carry it, but after King Ranch took over the location I've not seen any. You might check the Asian live-poultry markets, too.

You can buy fresh rabbit at the place down the street from this place Dakao Poultry (I forget the other place's name). This is FRESH rabbit, so they have a cage of bunnies as soon as you walk in the door don't get too squeamish.

I don't think it is on the current menu but Otrolan prepares a very good rabbit. You could call and ask when it will hop back on to the menu--perhaps Easter?

Last time I had rabbit was at Ca De Sol, off Lankershim/Cahuenga. I thought it was great. It also came with baby carrots that still had their greens, the finished dish made me laugh. (Rabbit...Carrots...)

I had great rabbit at Louqes. This is Susan Gowens (?) place. I went for Sunday supper. It was awesome!!!!!!. Shwe also has AOC.

Agree with the recomendation -- if not the spelling, it is Suzanne Goin -- Luques often has a great rabbit dish. Inventive preparations too, I once had rabbit 3 ways: sausage, saddle and stuffed loin...yummy.
