ISO Rockford, IL lunch

Milwhawkeye Mar 31, 2009 02:42 PM

I'll be in Rokford for a soccer tournament this weekend, and am in need of a lunch spot. Rockford seems to be full of chain restaurants. Any hounds have some tips for me?

It's me and a few open-minded gals. We like it all--dives, holes-in-the-wall, cheap, pricey, fancy, dumpy...just needs to be tasty and/or interesting. With that broad mandate, please let me know your thoughts.

Rockford is pretty much a chain town, especially along East State (Rte. 20) near the tollway. Although it is a part of a small Midwest chain, The Machine Shed is pretty good. It's what it says, honoring the American farmer and you can expect a lot of good Iowa pork amongst other things. Big varied menu, very casual for a soccer team. Should be no problem. The other suggestion is a neighborhood Italian eatery, probably more appropriate if the moms and dads want to get away from the kids. Thunder Bay Grille, across Rte. 20 from the Machine She is actually owned by the Machine Shed people. Looks like northwoods cabin inside. We ate there last fall and it was just meh, ok but nothing to go out of your way and not for picky eaters as it's menu is limited. Sorry but we're only in Rockford to visit family and usually eat there though they like the Machine Shed too and go there with them.
