My dad is coming in town in a couple of weeks and we are going to a steakhouse. We've been to Grill 23, Abe and Louies, KO Prime, and have been to many Morton's. I think we want to try a local place and avoid chains. Specifically, does anybody have recommendations between Mooo and the Oak Room. We like big NY strips, preferably 20 ounces but I understand that most local places don't serve that big of a steak. Next to the steaks, the most important factor is the bread. After that, a good wedge salad and some good potatoes/vegetables (especially creamed spinach). Deserts may not be too important because we might go to the North End at some point during the day. But if one of those restaurants has amazing deserts please tell. And if I'm missing a steakhouse please recommend it.

  1. I think it's customary for a steakhouse to cut you any size you want, even if it's not on the menu. Of the two you mentioned I would choose Mooo...., but it's not at all an old school atmosphere. And with them, I'd call ahead regarding custom sizes. They do have very good desserts, as well.
