My boyfriend and I are introducing our moms... help!

Hi all,
I'm hoping you can help me make this afternoon as pleasant as possible, can you tell I'm nervous? My boyfriend and I are taking our moms out to lunch and to the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Ct for their first meeting. I'm a little clueless when it comes to restaurants out there. I'm looking for something nice, but still pretty casual and well-priced. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. there is some very good food in the area. In ridgefield itself, there is a very nice french restaurant whose name escapes me right now. check the boards. if you want to drive south a bit, go to the schoolhouse for a phenomenal lunch and nice setting. it's probably a 20 minute drive from the museum. good luck

thanks a lot for that suggestion - it is exactly what i'm looking for!

I think the french place is called Luc's...I've never been but my brother loves it for french bistro food. The Schoolhouse at Cannondale is wonderful, I second that recommendation.

        1. re: sibeats

Luc's has a condesending gallic attitude... which unfortunately is more authentic French than some of their servings..

for example, their moules frite does a disservice to both mussles and pomme frite.

Does draw the Ridgefiled crowd tho.

Like I said, I've never been since I'm not drawn to that type of food. Regardless, my vote would be for the Schoolhouse.

    2. DEFINITELY go to the Schoolhouse!!! Luc's is fine for what it is (it draws the Ridgefield crowd b/c we don't have much else ;), but not where you want to go w/your moms. The Schoolhouse will be perfect. Just make sure you have good directions and you don't miss the turn off of Rt. 7 into Cannondale. Have fun!

      1. know, it just occured to me that the person suggesting the French place was probably talking about Bernards, not Luc's...Bernards has very good food, but the decor is extremely outdated and stuffy (although for a weekend night, Sarah's Wine Bar upstairs is fun, but not what you need). Anyway, I still say The Schoolhouse!

Bernard's. that was the place. yes, a little stuffy, but nice food. I stick with my initial recommendation, go to the Schoolhouse. If it's a nice day, ask for a table outside.

          1. re: LW1

Bernards is way stuffy - lots of people in golf attire! Lots of blue hair. Maybe a bit too stuffy?

Thanks for the recommendations. I have a reservation at Schoolhouse for brunch on Sunday and am really looking forward to it. Also really excited to learn about the restaurant in general, it sounds like they're doing a lot of interesting stuff with local farmers and the community.

              1. re: livetoeat24

They are doing a lot with Millstone Farm in Wilton, dinners, etc. If you read the chef's blog on the website there is some interesting info. I've never been to brunch, but we've had dinner there probably 15 times or's really good!

        2. Schoolhouse has a huge following and jfood was supposed to eat there this evening, but it was a wine dinner. Jfood would suggest you look on-line for tyhe prices on the menu since he would not characterize this as well-priced.

Bernards is stuffy and probably not a good mom-mom place for lunch.

Jfood would also check out Elms at the northern end of main street in ridgefield. Not sure if they sure lunch so you may want to call and ask.
