help!

Please!

I used to order from a small grocer in New York and they're gone out of business. I don't want to miss the season and can't find them locally.

thanks for your help!

  1. Not sure where you can get fresh harvest, but you can get dried or water packed from hmart.com
    http://www.hmart.com/shopnow/shopnow_...

    or dried from koamart

    1. Kater, the grocer you're talking about isn't Manhattan Fruit Exchange, is it? I've bought mine there and at the Union Square Greenmarket in the past.

Also, where is local for you? Fiddleheads are pretty perishable and it would be best to find something as close to you as possible, even if you do have to ship.

      Addendum:

I just did a quick Google search for "fiddlehead ferns sale" and found this from last year: http://freshfiddleheads.blogspot.com/...

Thank you so much. I am in sururban Philadelphia and was ordering them from Marche Aux Delices in NY. I go to a few local produce farms as well as a couple of nice green grocers here but none of them have them.

Thank you so much for the tip, I contacted Ruma but the owner was not in. They're geared toward selling in quantity to the trade but the woman who answered thought it was worthwhile to speak with the owner directly about mail order. I'll be calling back tomorrow!

hi kater, i called the manhattan fruit exchange to ask about availability and mail order shipments of fiddlehead ferns. (the guy on the line was hilarious and thought i'd asked him whether he had any friends he could ship. ;) they haven't gotten any for the season, yet, but expect to later in April. and although they don't usually ship fiddleheads (just fruit-filled gift baskets), he offered to ask his manager for me tomorrow. so just in case the Ruma lead and trouttr's suggestion don't work out for you, you might want to check the MFE. hope you get your fix!

Did you try the Ardmore Farmer's market next to Trader Joe's (in Suburban Philly)? Last year I saw some at Grand Central Station at one of the produce stands but they were outrageously expensive. We also got them one year at Stop N Shop in Yonkers.

I too am looking in the New York/Westchester County area. We've tried stop n shop and the Bronxville farmer's market, but no luck. The season has been pretty bad for everything (according to the farmers) because of the cold spring weather

        2. I've always had good luck with Earth Delights (http://www.earthy.com) for all products but especially for fiddleheads, morels and ramps in the spring. I highly recommend them.

          1. I personally ordered 5 lbs. from Ruma's last year. I have never seen so fresh, green and large fiddleheads... I used to buy them at farmer's markets throughout nyc and fairfield county, CT even insane $$ at whole foods. Sometimes Stop & Shop would have them at reasonable prices, but not reliable from year to year.

NEVER AGAIN ANYWHERE BUT RUMA'S !!!

            1. You could always grab yourself a good field guide lace up those hiking boots and get them the old fashioned way. I've never paid for morel's or fiddleheads.
