Isn't there any *good* restaurant near Univ. of Southern Calif.? I don't mean fancy or "stuff stuff with heavy," but fresh food really well prepared, served in nice (and quiet!) atmosphere, with good wine list? I ate on campus in what was called the "faculty club," and the food was awful!

Short answer, no. And you are quite right about the faculty club. Inedible, and that's just to begin with. Are you looking for lunch or dinner and how far are you willing to travel? There are a couple downtown options and it is possible to get to other parts of town relatively quickly on the 10, depending on the time of day.

Lunch; and it really does need to be nearby. I guess I'm out of luck. I guess I'm naive: I did assume that a wealthy school like USC would have a nice faculty club with, maybe not Great, but at least really Good, food! Puritanism strikes again.

In the lot across from the Del Taco on Figueroa is a decent Italian restaurant for lunch. I used to eat there daily when my office was in the Annnenberg House.

Pete's on east side of Hoover, between Adams & the 10. Originally Greek food, but they serve minute steaks, burgers, etc., in addition to the gyros. Quite greasy, but not all that bad.

Mercado La Paloma, east of the 110, between jefferson & Exposition, right next to the Parking Center & the DMV. Quite good mexican / central american joints.
