Commonhouse - Charlotte
This is a new restaurant on Central Avenue (just down the street from Intermezzo). Its very casual, with a sort of "industrial" or loft type interior (open ceiling, exposed duct work, hardwood floors). The food is outstanding. On my first visit I had a burger, and I noticed on the menu that they also have a pimento cheese sandwich (with homemade pimento cheese). I asked if they could put pimento cheese on my burger, and it was fantastic! Great burger, good beef flavor, excellent bun (light, but substantial at the same time) and the pimento cheese is excellent. Went back last night and my wife and I split the baked pimento cheese and shrimp appetizer (are you seeing a pattern here? lol). Honestly, the flavor of the pimento chees overpowered the shrimp, so it really wouldn't have mattered if the shrimp was even in there, but no matter. Served with toast points, it was great. We then split the fish special, red snapper (brought in fresh from Wilmington according to our server and only $13) with a dijon mustard mustard sauce served over succotash. Again, it was oustanding. For dessert we split chocolate bread pudding with coffee ice cream and chocolate sauce. I'm still thinking about it, it was so good.
All in all, this place rocks! Great food, excellent value, friendly servers. The only downside is that it can get a bit noisy when it starts to fill up, due to all the hard surfaces. But thats a minor point. Everyone should try this place out.

We went for dessert and I had the sweet potato cake w/ vanilla ice cream and SO had the chocolate bread pudding w/ coffee ice cream. They were good, but not really memorable. I didn't enjoy the atmosphere... I found it cold... not some place I would want to linger over a meal. More like the kind of place to grab a quick bite. There was a good crowd at the bar and it seems as though it will likely become a hang out in that regard.
A friend had dinner there and really enjoyed her fish - said it was cooked perfectly. I'll go back and try a meal - I must say whenever I see a pimento grilled cheese on a menu it always speaks to me. Given that CD loved theirs I'll have to go back and order it.
