Tucson-family friendly recommendations
I will be in Marana (NW Tucson) next week with my family (husband and 2 kids, ages 7 and 10). We are looking for some recommendations for restaurants that are family friendly but with good food so Mom and Dad can enjoy a nice meal. Our kids are very well behaved but not adventurous eaters. We were thinking about the Hilton El Conquistador but would like some other ideas.
We stayed at the Hilton over the weekend. I wouldn't make a special trip there to eat...the food isn't horrible but not worth a special trip for. The western steakhouse was closed, don't know if that's going to the be case next week as well...if the weather is nice, might be nice to sit at the picnic tables there for dinner. I seem to rememebr from previous visits when it is open they have live music and maybe western dancing? Would be fun for a family, but check to see if it's open and if not, don't bother with the resort.
Lots of restaurants in the area though. We had a good Italian dinner at Tavolino. There's an El Charro now up around this area(Orange Grove and Oracle I think) if you want to try their famous carne seca(doesn't do a lot for me but it sure has its fans, plenty of other things to eat on the menu though). La Parilla Suiza will have mariachi music if you want something festive and family friendly(it's on Ina).
We saw a Sauce on Oracle not far from teh hotel....that would definitely be family friendly and not too expensive. There was a Wildflower as well nearby. Both are Fox Restaurants Wildflower should be family friendly. http://www.foxrestaurantconcepts.com/...
You really can't go wrong with most Fox Restaurant Concepts here in Tucson. My favorite is Montana Avenue, which is traditional comfort food with a twist. It's not close to Marana at all, but I feel it's worth the drive.
Zinburger, which was recommended earlier, is always a good choice too.
I agree - almost allTucson restos are kid-friendly, as long as they're not the high-end ones like Ventana Room and McMahon's.
The restos that our fourteen-yr-old and we agree on most are: Zinburger (great burgers, shakes, fries; ahi available for the grownups); Flemings (she's an expensive kid) for steaks and party atmosphere; Blue Willow (for breakfast and lunch).
Her all-time favorite place (but not mine) is the swim-up snack bar at the Westin La Paloma Hotel for fries and sodas. They have a big water slide the kids love.
Jax Kitchen is close to your area, and it's delicious, stylish, and very friendly. Make reservations, though - it's very popular.
Feast isn't as close as the others I've listed, but it's my favorite mom-and-pop resto. and worth taking your kids there. Have fun!
