WALNUTS: HOW MANY POUNDS OF PERIGORD WALNUTS IN THE SHELL NEEDED FOR ONE POUND OF NUT MEATS?

I was lucky enough to find the imported French Walnuts from Perigord, France at FAIRWAY. The price has really declined. The expiration date is 2010, but I always store mine in the freezer, in a glass jar or double freezer bag..

I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me how many pounds of Walnuts in the shell do I need for one pound of Walnut meats?

Any suggestions for using the Perigord Walnuts will,be appreciated. The taste is elegant, very different from the Walnuts from California in the can, or from SAHADIS.

TIA

Are Perigord walnuts the same size as regular walnuts? If so, 1 pound of walnuts in the shell equals 7 ounces, or 2 cups, shelled.

Thanks, Joan. Your measurments are very helpful. The Walnuts from Perigord are about the same size.

The price is so good at FAIRWAY RED HOOK, I am going to go and load up and freeze.
