Saturday Ferry Building Farmer's Market - What not to miss?

janeyoc Mar 28, 2009 01:25 PM

I know the pork sandwiches & Blue Bottle coffee is great. What are the other not to be missed finds in the FM? We are going next Saturday.

Bread & cheese recommendations would be great.

Andante Dairy for cheese. Della Fattoria for bread (since you can get Acme any day).

Is there a specific type of cheese or bread that stands out?

You can ask them for suggestions for what's best that day with the Adante cheeses, and they'll describe the differences. In my experience, their pricing is indicative of the difference in quality of their cheeses.

Things to eat right there? I'm a sucker for the deep fried asparagus from Zuckerman's if it is in season. A lunch plate (tofu-chicken patty, salad, rice) from Delica-rf. Or a croquette.

Or for later? Rancho Gordo beans-any kind. Yogurt from Benoit. One of the prepared dishes from Sogo Tofu. Jerky from Fatted Calf.

If you're into them -- I would say freshly-shucked oysters from Hog Island.

Crabcake sandwich from Hayes Street Grill stand.
