New Pakistani Restaurant on Staten Island

BMartin Mar 27, 2009 03:13 PM

I haven't been there yet, buit I grabbed the menu on the way home from Lowe's and the Travis veterinarian. Its called Hyderabad House of Biryani and is at the corner of Forest and Richmond Avenue. Across from the not-so-good Dakota diner. Small menu, a few tables--not sure they are using paper plates like Dosa Garden did when they first opened.

I'd love to hear some reports about it if anyone is going to go.

BTW, owner's South Indian (Hyderabad)... anyone been to the new vegetarian Indian next to Indian Clove and the bookstore? We're starting to rival Jersey City!

hope you encourage them to cook some actual hyderabadi food - then itmight be worth visiting!

This is something that I am not familiar with - can you elaborate?

They cook up a ton of Hyderabadi dishes:
Hyderabadi Biryanis (lamb, chicken or veg)
            Bagharay Baingan
            Mirchi Ka Salan
            Haleem (lamb or chicken)

Menu is very reasonable, with the most expensive dish costing under $8. I haven't eaten there yet, but did speak with the owners and they are from Hyderabad. Atmosphere isn't great, but it's clean and utilitarian.

I have been to the restaurant you mention. Its good. A little expensive and formal, but they have very good lemon rice and channa chat. But I prefer Dosa Garden and Al Humza. Sorry to hear about House of Biryani.

Had the lunch special today... two meats (goat curry and chicken tikka) and a veg (garbanzos) with rice, 6 bucks. Very average. Al Humza just seems fresher and better prepared all around.

Flaco and/or comestible will probably check it out before anyone else does.

I had hoped to get over there today (Sunday), as I'll be in the area, but have a tight schedule, so it will have to wait a bit. :( BMartin, thank you for the lead.
