Hi
I'm coming to Phoenix next month to celebrate my 50th with my best high school friend (whose 50th birthday is also in April). I want to take him someplace AWESOME-in Phoenix or surrounding areas. Is there something really, really cool and interesting? Cuisine type not as important as quality of food and overall great experience. And I'm prepared to pay. 'Cause how often do you turn 50?

I'm from Tucson, so my help is limited. The hot Phoenix places seem to be NOCA, Binkley's, KAI Restaurant, and T. Cooks. I have tried none of them, but Janos Wilder is the consulting chef for KAI. Janos, his formal restaurant in Tucson, is tops for special occasions and, based on that and the positive comments about KAI, I think it'd be a safe choice.

      Happy Birthday!

I love Binkley's and, in fact, plan on my birthday dinner there next month. I'm also a huge fan of Quiessence, especially on a beautiful night to sit on the patio, or arrange a special tasting menu al fresco at the Brick Oven Table.

I haven't yet been to some of the high-end places usually mentioned for special occasions (T. Cook's, Lon's at the Hermosa, Vincent's on Camelback), and Kai is high on my list to try, especially for a celebratory occasion.
