Ate with my veggie friend, everything was great: uthappam (HUGE veggie pancake), dosai (HUGE veggie crepe), idly (fluffy rice cakes), and the knockout chutney (coconut?). Appreciated the bits of jalapeno in the uthappam and dosai. Thought about stopping at Tommy's on the way back, but I was stuffed.

This is , by the way, one of my favorite restaurants in the world.

Idli, dosai, uthappam are all excellent. Next time, try the... baratha? Giant fried poofy bread.

Bhatura - dough fermented overnight with yogurt, and a slather of oil, in addition to other leavening agents, then deep fried to pouffiness (see link below). Woodlands possibly makes the largest Bhaturas this side of the Atlantic! Eaten with "chhola" - spicy garbanzo beans.

As opposed to "paratha" - thence the confusion - these are stuffed rotis, usually with spicy potato mix (aloo paratha), minced mutton (keema paratha), fenugreek greens (methi paratha), or radish (muli paratha), or plain paratha with no stuffing. These are pan fried.

The street side chicken and mutton rolls in India are served in wraps which could be called "bharathas" - fermented like bhatura dough, but pan fried like parathas. You don't get them here.

And the Woodlands has a good lunch buffet, I believe it was about $8, where you can try all sorts of stuff at once. Caution: the buffet is closed on one weekday, Monday if I remember correctly.
