Fisher Scientific or VWR Scientific -- you are referring to the same Agar used for growing bacteria, right?

Try Harmony Natural Foods. They have a huge selection of foods, with many hard-to-find items.

Anyone know where I would find it in say....Hong Kong supermarket? Spent about 20 minutes looking today, and even more time trying to explain to someone what I was looking for....no dice! haha.

if you live near a Whole Foods Market, they often have it in the aisle with other Asian ingredients - look for it amid the hanging packages of seaweed. alternatively, check your local health or natural food store - they typically carry it.

Usually in the dry ingredient area where they have stuff like rice flour (small clear bags). I haven't bought it in years and it might even come in a box, but it's in that section.

Yeah, tried there, I'll try again, they pointed me to the non powdered green dried stuff.

Any chance you're making marshmallows? I got what I thought was agar agar from my local Asian market to make some and they ended up smelling so strongly of fish/seaweed that I couldn't even bring myself to try one.

Yum, makes me think that I should start a few Oyster mushroom bags. My Shitaki bag is all done and no sense starting a new one of those until the Fall.

Any Asian market will carry it.
