What is Thai Seasoning?

I have a recipe for Thai Chicken Coconut Soup and it calls for 2 tsp. of Thai Seasoning. Is this a spice blend that you can get? And if so where would I be able to find it or is there an acceptable substitute?

I spent 15 minutes wandering around my local grocery store because of that same damn recipe. Called all around and no stores had it. Until I found it today.. at Cost Plus!

I got a Thai stir-fry blend of whole spices in a little glass bottle with grinder at Superstore (in Canada). It's President's Choice.

I’d never heard of it but I was curious so I Googled. Evidently a number of different companies package something they call Thai Seasoning. Here are the ingredients lists for two of them.

Spice Hunter brand includes Sesame Seeds, Chile Pepper, Coriander, Onion, Red Pepper, Shrimp, Garlic, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Lemon Oil.

McCormick brand includes: spices (including chili pepper, ginger, coriander, red pepper, cumin cinnamon, and star anise), salt, garlic, lemon peel, shallots, modified corn starch, jalapeno peppers, natural flavor, and sulfiting agents (to prevent caking).

ETA: Here's a recipe for Thai Chicken Coconut Soup that doesn't call for a commercial blended seasoning. Perhaps you could use this instead? or adapt your recipes using the ingredients listed in this one.

Thank you so much for the quick responses. Actually the recipe is out of this month's Better Homes & Gardens. So I'm assuming with the simplicity of the recipe that it would be the McCormick brand. Now I'll just have to go search for it...

See the edit to my reply above. Maybe you'd be better off using the Epicurious recipe?

I know this is rather late, but one popular Thai seasoning blend is the one by American spice. you can buy it online here

              The ingredients are pretty typical

Have you had any luck finding the Thai Seasoning Blend? I too purchased the Better Homes & Gardens magazine and was looking for that spice as well.

Penzey's, the online spice store, has a Bangkok Blend:

Am willing to bet Thai Seasoning = fish sauce.

Are you, by chance, making Taste of Thai's chicken coconut soup? If so, for sure that's what you need--fish sauce. I've made that soup dozens of times and it's really tasty, too.

I called McCormick and they discontinued their Thai Seasoning blend in 2006.
