I've been looking for new dessert places to take my girlfriend, and stumbled upon Biba's Baked Goods on Yelp. It's received 5 stars from all 16 reviewers, but I can't find any info on the place. I called the phone number listed, but it went to what I believe is a personal voicemail box. Perhaps belonging to the owner?

I tried Googling the name, but the only relevant information that comes back points me back to the Yelp listing. The address is a PO Box, so I'm guessing there's no actual store location.

Some of the reviews on the Yelp page indicate that the desserts can actually be found at Pepper Pot in Dudley Square, but their website doesn't make any mention of where they get their desserts.

I guess I'm just looking for anybody with more knowledge about Biba's Baked Goods... Anybody out there?

I think you mean Biga Breads Cafe in Charlestown. They make terrific breakaway rolls in a number of varieties.

I haven't tried most of what they offer.

Nope, but thanks for the reply. Here's the link to the Yelp page:

I also forgot to mention that I searched for it on the chow boards but didn't find any reference to it in the 6 pages that the search returned.

That's crazy - it's like it only exists on Yelp. I once wanted to create a make believe facebook restaurant and see how many fans I could get.

Yes, it does seem odd. Not only that, all the reviews refer to parties or potlucks, to the Pepper Pot, or in one case it sounds like the reviewer has been to a number of parties catered by the Pepper Pot. The address is a PO box in Arlington, so it seems likely that the phone number is indeed personal voicemail.

Right??? Google has spoiled us all. It's strange when we CAN'T find out everything about anything.

Allstonian, I'm with you. I have a hunch that I'll have to cross this place off my list, but I guess I was hoping this place had an actual store I could go and visit.

I love a good hunt -- your post intrigued me -- here is what I found: Barbara Ann is a real person, and her "yelp" name is Barabara Ann. Seems like she caters and sells her baked goods at the Pepper Pot. So, no true brick and mortar location (alas!) but she is real. I found this info re: Biba's at a "conversation" site on Yelp (I did a google search for biba's baked goods and barbara ann):

11/05/2007 Barbara Ann "Ligaya loves my coconut lime cupcakes" B. says:

Melissa, sorry not to reply but, Becki got it all right.

I am Biba, of Biba's Baked Goods which are currently sold at Pepper Pot and by special order. I am currently working on the website, but am not sure that it will be completed before the holidays. I have a line of cakes, pies, cookies and cupcakes with alot of Vegan options.

Here's info on the Pepper Pot:

She's a Yelper, caters from her house and her husband's business, Pepper Hot Pot. Most of her cupcakes are vegan and very good. She can be hired independently for catering. YUM.
