Whiskey Tasting Tennessee (Nashville)

My husband and I will be traveling to Nashville for a long weekend. Does anyone have any recommendations for excellent places/distilleries for whiskey tasting in the area? Preferably artisanal and unique distilleries - something you couldn't find outside of Tennessee. Thank you!

You really need to go to Dickel. I went there 8 years ago with my wife, and it was just us and the tour guide. We had the run of the place! If you go to Jack Daniels you will have a much larger crowd to contend with. The setting of the distillery is beautiful, although hard to find. A GPS is a good idea. Plus, the whiskey is much better than Jack. Here is a link for tours:

However, if you're not familiar with Dickel, you must taste some. It's Tennessee's best-tasting whiskey, and practically unknown outside of the state.

Unbelievable, but you cannot taste TN whiskey where it is made...it should be a crime. The visit is neat and the tour very interesting at Jack Daniels but you cannot even have a beer with lunch in downtown Lynchburg. There is bourbon tasting not to far from Nashville in Kentucky. There is also a vineyard that has wine tasting..but proceed at your own risk..Tennessee wine?
        Good luck!

We have two distilleries about 70 miles from Nashville -- Jack Daniel and George Dickel -- and both are in dry counties so there's no on-premise consumption or even sale. Not like Napa Valley-- sorry. The tours are supposedly interesting, and the drive to them is undeniably beautiful. Miss Mary Bobo's Boardinghouse in Lynchburg near Jack Daniels has classic Southern food. Get a reservation, though.
