[HOU] The Big Bite at Houston Museum

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is hosting an evening of menu tastings from all kinds of different well known restaurants in town on April 30th. It;s sponsored by Texas Monthly & Polo's Signature. Has anyone ever been to this before? I am wondering if it is where you just get a bite of food at each place, or what. The tickets are only $35, and there are a lot of restaurants and food places participating, so I am thinking it will just be samples, but if anyone has been please share.

Thanks

    1. I couldn't tell from the blurb whether or not participants are going to the individual restaurants, or the restaurants are bringing the food, music, entertainment, etc., to the Museum. I'd guess it'd have to be the latter. Not sure you could possibly get around to all the participating restaurants in a limited time frame...

I just purchased a ticket online.. Should be fun... Might be a terrific venue for fellow chowhounds to mix? Jack

I've been to the Menu of Menus, sponsored by the Houston Press, before and it is set up like a convention where each participant has a booth/table, and you go around from one to another and get samples, and get to pick up menus, or whatever. I'm guessing this will be the same thing. I know the HP event gets very packed, so you have to get there early. I don't know how long they have been doing this at HMNS, but hopefully it won't be as packed. The only bummer is that Pierson's BBQ is going to be at the Menu of Menu's! But I know what his food tastes like, so . . .

Big Bite sounds like Big Fun! I think I'm going to plan to go as well.

I think we are in as well. Even my DH is looking forward to it! Maybe we can all meet somewhere and say hello.

This is coming up in about two weeks.

                  Has anyone been before?

                  1. re: onatrip

I have asked on other forums and no one has ever responded. So, maybe that is a good thing. Could be that it isn't as popular as the other event that is similar (the Menu of Menus hosted by the Houston Press) so it won't be as crowded. The other one gets a bit crazy. If I hear any news I will pass it along, but looking at the list of restaurants I don't think you could go wrong. I mean $35 for some of the newest and best in town. Can't beat that.

                      onatrip,

After searching the internet and other local forums I have finally figured out that the reason no one has responded about this event is because I believe this is the first time they have done this! Or at least that is what I gathered. So there you go!

I had just assumed, stupid I know, that such an event would be on a weekend - perhaps a Sunday afternoon.

But as it is during the week, I'm not going to be able to make it.

                        Unfortunately.

I think it's a great idea and I was looking forward to it.

ARGH! I waited till this morning to purchase tickets. According to the woman with whom I spoke on the telephone, it's sold out! :(
