Anybody tried this yet?

..two 1/2-pound charbroiled, 100-percent Angus beef patties topped with three slices of American cheese, bread-and-butter pickles, red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise -- all on a toasted, seeded bun.

I love meat but ugh!

Actually, I tried the "regular" $6 chili cheese burger a week or so ago. Was sorry I got the chili cheese because, as it turns out, the meat is (believe it or not) damn good. Supposed to be certified Angus beef.

My Carl's Jr. days are over since seeing "Supersize Me" this past weekend - but inquiring minds want to know.. How DO they get their meat to be so damned dry? Their burgers are about as juicy and delicious as a Milkbone.

Like a couple other fast food chains, they cook the burger patties in batches, keep them warm and then reheat them as needed to fill orders.

That is how they get their so-called $6 (or any other) burger to taste like prison chow.

There's a CJ's right next door to my office. I'm not a big fan of their burgers, but I've got to say, in a pinch, I think their Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich is pretty damn good. Certainly, one of the better tasting items one can get in a big fast food chain.

I ordered one of these low carb burgers a while back, but when I got it I noticed two patties in it. Maybe it was a mistake on their part because they didn't have this.....Well, I was starving so I ate the whole thing. It was beefy. Very beefy.

I don't think it was a pound of meat though. If it was.....

We try to keep discussion on local boards focused specifically on local chow. Discussion of the chow at fast food chains (where the menu is the same at any of the thousands of locations) belongs on the General Topics board, unless there is a unique local aspect to it. This discussion doesn't seem to have any features that are unique to the LA area, so we'll be removing this discussion soon. Please restart it on the General Topics board if you want to continue. Thanks very much.

Wait - isn't Carl's Jr pretty much a Southern California chain? If we can talk about In and Out, why not Carl's Jr's?

Just curious about the differentiation.

Carl's Jr. is a bit more widespread than In-n-Out, with locations in Hawaii and Texas for example. We'd just like to make sure the chow talk on this board stays focused on the chow that's unique to this area, and the General Topics board is used for discussions of chow on a national/international level. Thanks.

Carl's Jr. and an increasing number of fast food outlets are promoting "Angus" beef burgers, but don't be fooled. "100 percent Angus beef" is not the same thing as "certified Angus beef," which guarantees a certain level of quality.

Angus is just a name that's supposed to refer to a certain breed of cattle, but lately it's become an abused marketing term that's been used to mislead uninformed consumers. You might as well call it Malcolm, Bon or Brian for that matter.

I think this discussion is too interesting to lose, so per the Mods' request I am starting this up again on the General Board. (Link below.) I hope the Mods can see their way clear to leaving what's been posted here, because it is an interesting discussion and Carl's does tend to be a SoCal icon (for good and ill).
