KCMO- Cancun Fiesta Fresh

WOW. Beef Tongue street tacos were fantastic and more than reasonable. I'm in love. Beware 'cause they've changed their hours and close earlier now.

Thanks for the info. I love the cabeza (beef cheek) street tacos, too. The tongue is always good.

I did a combo of tongue and carnitas. Next time it'll be tongue and cheek. The regular Tex-Mex looked doable as well.

As you can tell by the amount of interest this post has generated, most people don't know what it is or haven't been there. Or maybe, they're not "foodies" and don't read this site. Maybe it's the name, the fact that it's in Westport or the ubiquitous nature of Tex -Mex in the Midwest that keeps it under wraps even for chowhounds. I wouldn't have gone if I hadn't heard they offered those particular tacos. Now I'll frequent the joynt. Hope you enjoy it as much as I.

It's always crazy busy on Taco Tuesdays. The taco specials don't include the street tacos, but I end up always getting the street tacos anyway. I'm not a big fan of hard shell tacos, but they did look pretty good the last time I was there. Lots of people were enjoying them, that's for sure. Their salsas are decent, too.

The street tacos arent $1 on Tues? Didn't they use to be??? Darn. I have actually heard about this place for months and I just started working downtown and was going to try it out next week.

What the diff between the tounge and the cheek tacos? Do you prefer one over the other? I am a huge carnitas fan and I am looking for some porky goodness as well

As far as I know the street tacos haven't been included in the Taco Tuesday deal.
I love tongue and cheek about equally. The cabeza seems to me a bit more beefy. The tongue, a bit more tender. They both have a nice meaty taste and texture.

Had some tacos again. This time I tried the cheek as well. The meat is sweeter than the tongue. I like them both. The fish tacos were also tried and sorry to say, not any good. The quality of the fish was the poblem. The cabbage, torts and sauce were just fine.

I find the fish taco in KC to be problematic. It's almost always Tilapia, which is that farm-raised, dirt-tasting garbage. I've had freshwater, wild tilapia, and it does not taste like that crap. I've been burnt too many times and have pretty much given up on getting fish tacos here. I ate at this place when they were first getting started and haven't been back by virtue of just never being in the area and hungry at the same time. I've been chomping at the bit to start a taco/authentic mex. scavenger hunt in the barrios of KC for some time and just haven't gotten off my butt.

They were Tilapia, indeed, and tasted just as you described. The street tacos are worth it, however. Let us know what else you find.

Had some chips and guacamole this time in addition to my usual street tacos. Both were good. The chips were very fresh and warm. Anybody eaten anything other than tacos?

Haven't found a reason to eat anything other than the street tacos. Standing in line and seeing the other stuff didn't move me to order anything other than cabeza or lengua. All the other food looked gringo ordinary. Actually, 2 weeks ago, we got an assortment of street tacos and they were only ok. No carrots, no radishes, just meat and tortillas. Sort of disappointing.

Today there were limes, carrots, a radish, lots of cilantro and onion. If it didn't come w/all that, it wouldn't be the same at all.

We were there on a slow Sunday night. After receiving our food without the usual carrots, etc, I asked about it and was told "we're out." They should have told us that when we ordered, actually. The cabeza and pork in the tacos tasted fine, but I agree, it wasn't the same without the other stuff. I'll go back because when it's good, it's really good! And it's 4 minutes from my home :-)

Odd thing about Cancun Fiesta Fresh - they started following me on twitter, but their own posts are locked so no one can see them without getting permission. Not what you would expect from a business trying to promote itself.
