Visitor needs good takeout options mid-Pen

I'm a New Yorker working at Stanford for the week and staying near SFO. I need to find some decent takeout in between the two--something not so far from the highway (I have a car and a GPS, so that's good). I'm so pooped at the end of the day that I don't feel like going up to San Francisco, where I know the restaurants a bit better, or driving to someone's favorite hole in the wall in Sunnyvale. I should also mention that I'm a vegetarian (although I tend to avoid vegetarian restaurants) and so would love to find a decent Indian or Thai place.

Many thanks for whatever advice you might have.

  1. For Indian, I would go for either Tabla in Foster City or Annapoorna (vegetarian) in San Mateo.

Thanks. Sounds good. I'll probably try the one in Foster City--right on my route.

Sorry...I accidentally put the Sunnyvale link instead of San Mateo.

      2. Annapoorna's wonderful but dosas might be better to eat there than drive north with.

Call Back A Yard in Menlo Park and see if they have anything vegetarian. It's wonderful Caribbean food.

        1. The veggie factor reduces a good deal of the fun. That said, you can get a good veggie burrito in downtown San Mateo at Pancho Villa and La Cumbre. Pretty quick off the 101, a couple of exits before SFO. Might also consider quesidillas as an option.

          La Cumbre

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. Much appreciated!

          2. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything "right off" 101; however, you have several options in downtown Palo Alto that would work for take out. For North Indian, there is Darbar, Janta and Hyderabad House with HH being a counter service type place. Then there is Kan Zeman, a Mid Eastern restaurant you might enjoy. Haven't been to Thai in a long time but back in the day, we used to frequent Bangkok Cuisine. Last but not least, there's Loving Hut, a vegan Asian restaurant (haven't been).

Janta is excellent Indian, and close to Stanford.
