Panaderia El Chocorrol - Clairemont (SD), Fridays

I live near this panaderia and patronize it frequently, merely because it's handy-- but the shelves seem always nearly empty and the pickin's are slim. (The cashier always lets me select from the baking racks.) But last Friday the shelves were FULL-- and everything was super fresh. The conchas were delicious AND the lady behind the counter sold us incredibly delish pork tamales wrapped in banana leaves. I'm not a tamale expert-- so can't give any more details over than I, my husband, and finicky houseguests devoured those tamales. So here's to yah, Clairemont!

Correction: my husband tells me that the clerk says the banana tamales are available every morning until they run out. (My husband speaks Spanish. I don't.) So I misunderstood. Still, Friday did seem to be the day of the full shelves. . .

I haven't ever heard of this place before but now I think I'll check it out. Thanks for the report.

They also have a taco cart out front on w'end days. I haven't tried it yet (wife just told me yesterday) but she said it looked like they had a number of offerings.

In combo with the tacos from La Tiendita, the taco scene is looking up here in Santee-by-the-Sea.
