Make the March Madness Commercial Stop Please!

I am on the Food Media Board and all of a sudden A Voice starts talking about getting March Madness over my phone. I about jumped out of my skin. And I could not get it to shut up. Make it stop! How intrusive is that? And it repeated itself after a couple minutes, slowing my computer down.

  1. yes it is awful and the close button does not work It just keeps running and running . I am signing off til it is fixed. WAY too annoying

    1. The best way to get any kind of advertising issues addressed is to click on the link that says 'advertisement' either above or beside the offending ad -- that'll take you to a page where you can report the issues directly to our ad team, including an option at the bottom of the survey to report the ad as broken.

How about instead, Engineering tests these ads beforehand to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen? Or do they just run any ads the advertisers give them without question? Should it really be our responsibility as readers to report these things to get them fixed after the fact?

Unbelievable -- I've never seen anything so intrusive. This is really the last straw. Amateurs.

For sure -- but it seems like some of the ads are broken for some of our members, and that form is the easiest way to reach those people. It will give them the information on precisely which ad you're having problems with in which contexts, in a way that me manually reporting a problem I can't even see, won't.

        2. re: Jacquilynne

Unfortunately, that's not an option for me. The sound isn't an issue, but the ad pops open as soon as its page does, and it covers half the screen. It does not close when I click the "close" button, and as I never see the original window, I also don't get the click-through comment generator.

          1. re: Caitlin McGrath

Caitlin's right--there is NO WAY to access the form you mention, Jacquilynne. How do I know? I just had this thing pop up on me again for the umpteenth time today after just reading this thread and I looked for anything I could click on to no avail.

        3. This one's really a blight. If I could remember who the advertiser was (and please don't mention the name here to remind me), I'd boycott it.

But in my limited experience with it, I've found that refreshing the page immediately kills the ad. Anyone else have any luck doing this? If this actually works, spread the word.

I hadn't experienced this until a few minutes after reading this thread this morning! Refreshing does work to silence the thing. Thanks, Squid kun!

Yeah, doing that works, or going back to the board index and reopening the page (quicker than refreshing for me). The reopened page doesn't have the ad.)

            2. this is awful and unacceptably intrusive.

also, a lot of people browse from work - congratulations, you have just outed them.

              1. Can't make it stop!!!!!!!! Even when I repeatedly hit the close button!! She. Just. Won't. Shut. Up.
