Going to see a Times Talk tonight. Is there anything yummy near there...for a date. Any kind of food is fine.

9th avenue is your best bet, anything near times sq is touristy, 8th ave is all "not date" worthy

      Any suggestions there then?

I haven't been there but there's Inakaya on the ground floor of the NY Times Building. I've passed by it, and it definitely looks date worthy.

On 9th Ave and in the 40s, there's Marseille and Five Napkin Burger. If you want to go more upscale, there's Esca.

I agree with Five Napkin Burger. It's definitely a more "upscale" burger place that is very date-worthy. Esca is one of my favorites, but it's nice to go for a long dinner instead of rushing out for a show.

I'd also add Nizza on 9th avenue to the list. It's casual but always busy and has a fun atmosphere.

I like to recommend Ariana Afghan but hate to be a broken record, for those who've read my recommendations before. The thing is, though, providing that you're willing to walk up to 9th between 52nd and 53rd, I think it may really fit what you're looking for. Not only is the food reliably good, but the small restaurant is cozy, with interesting pictures and rugs on the wall, and excellent, friendly service. Expect to pay around $30/person including tip.
