Pho in/near New Haven?

  • 5

Hi there... Anyone know of a good place to have pho in/near New Haven? I'm not a big fan of Pot au Pho -- it's OK but nothing special. Anywhere better? THANKS.

  1. Haven't personally been myself, but there's a pho restaurant in Danbury:

Has anyone been? I've been meaning to try since I can't seem to find any other Vietnamese place around the Danbury area except this one...

We used to go there when it was Thang Long and then it changed owners (and decor). The place looks like a dive...prices to match (thankfully)...but the food is good. There's nowhere else to go in the area for Vietnamese, so maybe we're not so discriminating these days...but we've never had a bad meal there. Good value for the price. If it's not overwhelmingly gourmet Vietnamese, it's still a decent meal. Don't bother dressing up!

Also decent but farther afield - we've also enjoyed dinners at Pho Mekong in Westport (on the Post Road - almost in Fairfield) - which is a combination of Vietnamese and Thai. A little more expensive (given the comparison of neighborhoods between this and Danbury, not surprising), but still a good value.

    2. There used to be a cart serving Pho during the warmer months outside of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Ask around, see if they are still there.

Pho Saigon in Bridgeport is good.

I've heard good things about the Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Middletown.

I think the place in Middleton is Pho Mai on Main St. pretty good but not as good as pho Saigon in Bridgeport..

      2. About 42 miles north of New Haven in West Hartford is Pho Boston - excellent pho. It's much better than Pot au Pho. It's off exit 41 on I-84, so about 30-40 minutes depending on how fast you drive.
