My Little Fat Greek...

c
chowchow333 Mar 22, 2009 08:59 PM

Has anyone else eaten here?

The owners are always there and super friendly. They remember their clientele by name.

I usually order the spanakopita. It's like no other spanakopita I've ever had. My friend always orders the moussaka. The bechamel on top is to die for. I've gotten the Greek salad, which is topped by a chunk of feta cheese. This feta cheese is different than the kind you can buy in stores; I think they get it from a specialty place. It's creamier. Whiter. Amazing.

And last but not least... the saganaki. I've surveyed a few Greek restaurants in the area and none of them come close to the greatness of this saganaki! It's basically a giant greek mozzarella stick... minus the mozzarella and the stick. (it's a greek triangular slice of cheese) You gotta try it.

So, to sum it all up, this is a little place with big flavors.

My friends are Greek and they claim My Little Fat Greek to be as authentic as it comes.

I'm interested to hear other's reviews.

I honestly was not that impressed when I went a few years back when they opened. I really have never heard anyone ever mention the place in my development, and we are all foodies. :)

I make my own spanikopita, so I never order that out...plus who knows when it was made. Same goes for pastichio or mousakka...God only knows if that stuff was in the frezzer for how long. I like getting lamb or chicken dishes.

Maybe I will give it a try again. The time I was there, they had their 13 year old nephew taking orders, bussing tables, answering the phones....I felt so bad for the kid. He was doing all this while the wife was seating her tush off cooking in the kitchen and the owner was sitting chatting with another couple. Hate to have that guy for my husband! lol

I've been twice. the last time was about a year ago, so I can't vouch for any changes since then.

We had better gyro at the Freehold mall and better greek food at It's Greek to Me, so I didn't even think they were as good as a chain. Better off taking the drive into Long Branch for real Greek food.

We've been there a few times in the past and thought that they were ok. The last time we were there was a couple of months ago at 7:30 on Saturday. The owner (wife) was saying that they weren't doing any more seatings but we could do takeout because they were closing at 8. So, we left and took our business elsewhere. A good and friendly restaurant who remembers their clientele by name wouldn't have done that. I guess even though we went there often they couldn't seem to remember our name.
