where to buy: King Leo Peppermints ?
I have an ice cream recipe that adamantly call for King Leo Peppermints. Interestingly, this company is located in Julian, CA, and although that would be a nice trip, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place in the greater LA area that carries them?
Apparently Williams-Sonoma and possibly Sur La Table do cary them during the Christmas season, and I've found a place in Irwindale where I can buy them by the case, but I need them before Christmas and preferably just a bag or two.
I contacted the company directly about this question several weeks ago, and never heard back from them. I plan to follow up, but thought that, among the great folks on this board, that someone might know offhand, of a local source.
I'm in Pasadena, but anywhere within 30-40 miles is ok.
Thanks in advance!
I think I saw them just yesterday at the spankin' new Whole Foods in Glendale. You should call to make sure.
Good luck.

Smogqueen: Thanks for the suggestion, and I had been looking for a reason to check out the new Whole Foods (supposedly 3rd largest in the chain).
I'm wondering if you were thinking of "Dr. Peter's Peppermint" somethings, which are kind of a chocolate covered peppermint thin? That's the only thing I could find that might have been similar. I asked several of the stocking clerks there, who also asked a couple of managers, and nobody knew anything about "King Leo's", so, unless we missed something (always a possibility), I am, alas, still on the quest.
But thanks for the suggestion, and I did appreciate the opportunity to go over and check it the new Whole Foods!

Oops...I think you are right about the mint mix-up. Nice store though, huh?
I felt badly for leading you astray, so I did a little research. Looks like Candy Warehouse in Irwindale can hook you up, and it should be fairly close to you.

Smogqueen: Thanks for checking into this, and no problem about the trip to Whole Foods in Glendale. (I needed to check them out anyway!)
I was aware of the Candy Warehouse, and they were my backup, but, at least on their website, one would have to buy a case of the item.
And, if I had replied last night, that would have been all I know. But ...
... As it turns out, I happened by Smart & Final today, and they carry the King Leo peppermint sticks! (about $3.50 per box of 36).
So my search is over! And I'll be able to take this ice cream to a potluck today.
Thanks very much for your help and your quick responses!
Happy Memorial Day!

Don't give up on Williams-Sonoma, especially the Pasadena location, they may very well have it.
If that doesn't work, I'm almost certain I saw some at Bristol Farms S Pas or Surfas Supply in Culver City.
According to the King Leo website, you can order one pound at a time from them and they will ship it out.

Rob: Thanks for the suggestions!
As it turns out, just this morning I found them at, of all places, Smart & Final! (Not too expensive either: about $3.50 for a box of 36 sticks.) I'm sorry I didn't think to look there sooner. They are about the only place I missed in my search before I brought the question to the board.
I've already tasted them, and they definitely are superior to the other commerical products that are easily obtainable. I'm hoping this will make a big difference in the ice cream recipe I have. (Now that I've scored the peppermint, I'm making the ice cream this afternoon for a barbecue this evening.)
Thanks for your help!

Hi Dave,
I stumbled upon this while looking for the peppermint straws to use to enjoy a lemon with. Recipes with adamant directions are my favorite and peppermint ice cream sounds really good! Did you happen to post the recipe? Thanks!

Hi apearl17,
ave's post is from seven years ago. I don't think he's posted here since 2004, so don't be surprised if you don't get an answer.
