London - whole/birthday cakes?

Hi All,

I need to purchase a few whole cakes at short notice - I need these by Tuesday evening at the latest. Being a little tight with time means that ordering in advance isn't really an option. Does anyone know of bakeries in Central London who stock whole cakes that they can sell same day? I'm after something fairly 'home made' looking (cakes are for a photo shoot) and fear a supermarket probably won't fulfil this criteria. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I'd second Hummingbird - their red velvet layer cake is fabulous!

Also Primrose Bakery (Primrose Hill or Covent Garden) have layer cakes available and I think Outsider Tart should be able to supply from their Soho kitchens - you can ring and check.

You might try Princi on Wardour. They specialize in Italian baked goods, and I can't remember if they have whole cakes. Their things are delicious.

Konditor & Cook tend to stock whole cakes which you can purchase on the same day. If you call in the morning, you can reserve the cakes and collect them at the time you say you'll be there. I'm not sure how home made these cakes look though!
