An Choi

I was walking by An Choi today and decided to stop in and give it a try. I had the cold cut bahn mi, which seemed to be the closest thing they have to the traditional pate. It consisted of several pieces of salami, ham, head cheese and pate. I must admit, I went in biased against this place. It seemed a bit too fancy, and the prices a bit too high, to serve up a legitimate bahn mi contender. I must admit, I liked it. The bread was not hot, so that definitely could have been better, but I did come in at a strange time (about 5 pm). The pate and the head cheese were really yummy, though I thought the salami was too chewy. My favorite part was the carrots. I know this sounds odd - but there was a very generous portion of lightly pickled carrots cut with ridges, and they added a lot to the sandwich. The mayo was nice too - thick, but lightly spread. All in all, a very tasty sandwich. And the roast pork one sounds delicious - next time I'll try that one along with the beef pho.
