Best breakfast in Guelph?

Hi, can anyone suggest a restaurant to get a great breakfast in Guelph that is not a chain restaurant like Golden Griddler or Eggcetera?

  1. My friend, you may be out of luck...the two popular spots in Guelph for breakfast are Eggcetera (didn't know it was a chain) and Angel's Diner (also a chain). In the past, I would have suggested Latino's for breakfast, but they aren't what they used to be *tear*. Squirrel Tooth Alice's serves breakfast that is ok, but I haven't been there in over a year so I'm not qualified to boast about it. I've heard that Doug's Place (downtown on Carden) and Goody's (on Woodlawn) have breakfast but I've never been. The Holiday Inn has weekend brunch (does that qualify as a chain?) and I'm sure most of the other hotels offer something as well. I hope someone else out there has better news...

Thanks for your honest answer and for taking the time to provide such a detailed response. I guess I just have to try a few unknown places and see how it goes!

Cafe Vienna is pretty good - on Macdonnell. Doug's Place was amazing but I think is gone.

Vienna (downtown with a yellow sign on MacDonell) is the best breakfast place in Guelph. Get the Classic or the Annika. It's not upscale, but it's the best place for a classic breakfast.

The Cornerstone (also downtown on Wyndham street) is terrific for breakfast also, though not as good on value compared to Vienna. Try the breakfast bagel or ask for a recommendation from their menu.

Heard great things about the Borealis Grille (newly opened) and their weekend brunch menu. I have not been. The breakfasts at the hotels in Guelph, Fifty West and Holiday Inn, might be something to try as well.

But yes, if you're looking for a classic breakfast, try Vienna downtown. It's very popular with people that live in the area.

I'm so glad to hear the the Cafe Vienna is still going strong. We lived in Guelph from 2000-2001 and we ate at the Vienna every weekend. I loved it there and would highly recommend it as a great, basic breakfast joint.

i really liked Vienna for the classic breakfast $3 price tag... but eggs were never really cooked properly, over deep fried potato chunks and unripe fruit...

its a chain, but eggcetera actually produced the best tasting breakfast, not for really really cheap.

        2. I agree - after living there for 5 years, I think you may be stuck with Eggcetera or the ever-classic McGryph (j\k)

          1. I would have to say that you should try Whippys downtown. Not a chain, which is nice, and not upscale where you need a tie or anything. I love breakfast and have found this one to be the best out of all that are available in Guelph. Eggcetera is nice ONLY if you have a large group and do not mind the wait and slightly higher costs.

Eggcetra Restaurant & Deli, isn't part of any chain, It is the best breakfast joint in the city the prices are a bit higher and there can be long waits but it is worth it. Willowside on willow rd makes not a bad cheap breakfast, i was only there once.

Actually it's called Wimpy's and it IS a chain.

Eggcetera tastes great but I always seem to be disappointed at the interior... has more of a cafeteria vibe than a restaurant. With a clever name like Eggcetera I guess I was just expecting more.

                1. Personally, I really love Ken's Family restaurant for when your looking for a delicious hangover breakfast or just for your morning gyros.
