Dim Sum in the area?

  • 6

Is there any place in the area that serves dim sum? Ding How (sp?), off of Veterans, was the only place I knew of that did, but they've been closed for a while. Any other candidates?

        Where is Royal China?

Isn't there some place on the West Bank that does dim sum on weekends?

    1. Royal China is on Veterans near Dorignac's, at the corner of Aris Ave. I am a big dim sum fan, and I seek it our wherever I go. Royal Chine is still the best dim sum I have ever had...truly...including San Francisco and New York.

It take some getting used to if you have experienced traditional dim sum service with the carts. Royal Chine serves dim sum anytime they are open, and the give you a sushi-bar-style menu so you can choose exactly what you want. No waiting for the right cart to come by with the items you crave! There is also a picture menu available if you are unfamiliar with some of the items.

Service can be inconsistent at times, and things seem to come out of the kitchen in random order. The kitchen can sometimes get bogged down when they get a sudden influx of take-out orders. But, the superb Chinese food and the owner's (Shirley) lovely personality makes it easy to overlook these minor flaws. From the dim sum menu, I especially like the beef short-ribs, paper shrimp, steamed pork bun, pan-fried (pork) dumplings, crab sui mai, seared tuna, and shrimp egg-roll (not really an traditional egg roll....just all chopped shrimp in an egg-roll skin).
