<content>Searching the SF Bay Area board for title:aziza gets zero hits, even if I expand the date range to ten years.

Is that a bug or has that feature been deprecated:?</content>

      <content>Jacquilynne,

I guess there's no thread or sticky post that lists search tips. I looked last night.

I was searching for threads with another Chowhound and myself. No longer am I able to search for user:"maria lorraine" AND user:whiner -- just to use whiner as an example. (He's so knowledgeable about wine.)

There's no guideline how to do this, so I struck out last night.

Just now, I clicked on Search at the top middle of the page, and typed in whiner in the username window. Then in the general Chow Search window above that, I typed in "maria lorraine." That worked, but I had to figure it out.

So, please issue a Search Tips sticky that lists how to perform searches like this.

And by the way, the Search function in general has come up with zero threads time and time again when I know the thread is there. But you already know teh Search function is wonky.

Good luck with the Spam on the SF Board. It's spreading like kudzu.

Don't mean to complain -- I know you're overwhelmed at the moment -- but these things are basic stuff that should be highly functional and are on other sites. Don't know why Chowhound is having such problems.

Good luck,
Maria

<content>Use yahoo.com for your searches - the title feature works there. In fact, you'll get much better results with an external search than with the barely-functional chow search.

Here's what I'd recommend:

title:aziza "San Francisco Bay Area" site:chow.com

Note that google doesn't seem to support the "title:x" syntax in a search. So stick with yahoo.

<content>Aha! Thanks for that. Google's "advanced search" help doesn't mention intitle. But now I am enlightened!

By the by, I figured that you're already a pro with external searches, but I put the tip here for other viewers... Me, I learned about the site: option about a year ago, in a previous thread about ongoing chowhound search problems.
