CA north coast dining: Ferndale to Santa Rosa?
I second the Groves. I had a great meal there last summer- in fact, it was the best meal I've had in Humboldt. We shared the lamb and the duck entrees, and both were fantastic. Their red wines are also very good, but I don't care for the whites (Riverbend Cellars and the Groves are owned by the same people).
For something more casual, the Ukiah Brewery has great food. I've had a great pulled pork sandwich, burgers, calimari. Well worth a stop. Unfortunately the beer isn't as good as the food.
For great beer and great food (at least the pizza), I love the Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa.
In October I spent a long weekend on the Lost Coast driving up from Sonoma County. On my way back on Sunday, i stopped for dinner at The Groves Restaurant in Myers Flat. It has a fine dining atmosphere and menu, but also some simpler menu choices and the chef used to be with Carter House in Eureka. I had some oysters on the half-shell and a wood-fired pizza, that were quite satisfying.
Had some great food up there, should work on a trip report.
