restaurant reco please - jarvis b/w wellesley and carlton
my friends and i are going to the betty oliphant theatre this saturday night ... it's located at 400 jarvis between wellesley and carlton. we've all been to keg mansion before and would prefer to try something new.
do you have any restaurant recos? nothing fancy ... we're open to any kind of food but please, no milestones, canyon creek, moxies, etc. and something less casual than salad king.
also, we would prefer to make reservations as we need to be at the theatre by 7:30 pm.
I honestly didn't think that they were still in business, but we got a flyer yesterday from the Fireplace Restaurant - chinese food on Jarvis between Wellesley and Carlton. I haven't been since about 1985, so can't vouch for the food, but it does fit your criteria.
That particular section of Toronto doesn't really have a lot you can walk to from the theatre or vice versa in this case. I would recommend going over to Parliament & Carlton. If you're driving, you'll find ample street parking. If TTC'ing, it's one Carlton car away. At that intersection you'll find Jam Cafe for bistro, Omi for fusion Japanese, and Piccolo for fine Italian dining at a reasonable price. One real winner in the neighbourhood if you find yourselves with the time for a glass of wine is The Cobourg on the east side of Parliament just a few doors south of Winchester. Shabby chic, candlelit, and a pretty decent wine list. I don't recommend House on Parliament. If you're not a regular, they'll treat you like dirt.

Googs is right on the money with Piccolo - I really like that place.
You're also a stone's throw away from Church & Wellesley as Dimbulb noted with Fuzion. It won't blow you away, but I consistently get good food at the local Il Fornello, and Byzantium is good too.
