Zeppole for St. Joseph's Day in Pittburgh?
I'm new to Pittsburgh this year and am wonderfing how to get my zeppole fix tomorrow on St. Joseph's Day. I've called a few bakeries and they've never heard of zeppole. Does anyone have an idea where I can get them?

I was surprised at how hard this was in Pittsburgh. The only places that I could think of were Oakmont Bakery and Moio's. http://www.moios.com/flash.htm
But these may not be a bakery item as much as a donut shop item. Sure is a puzzle.

I've lived here all my life, never heard of the either. Were you able to find them, they sure do look good from what I pulled up on the internet.

Zeppole were big in NY/CT/NJ, mostly at church fair celebrations for the different patron saint days and at outdoor festivals. Rarely saw them on a menu anywhere. Whenever I describe it to someone around Pgh, they immediately think funnel cake, sometimes pizza fritte, both along same lines, but flat.

Bravo Italiana offered zeppole on their Sunday brunch menu for a while. I'm not sure if their going to continue zeppole or the Sunday brunch. I think they had to make the zeppole to order.

Maybe you could order them....I know many italian bakeries in Phila have them for Saint Joseph's day (which I know was yesterday, but they have them all around the day!)

Thanks, all, for your help. I think next year I'll have to make them myself!

So far you've posted from San Fransisco, Rome, and Pittsburgh. At that rate, you may be in Naples by next St. Joseph Day.
