Best Phoenix Tamales @ Ostrich Festival
I recenly went to the 2009 Ostrich Festival in Chandler and happened to try a tamale from one of the little stands they had there. They had a small sign that claimed they had the "Best Tamales in Phoenix" according to some newspaper or magazine. I ended up buying one and it actually was the best tamale I've had in a long time but I forgot to pay attention to what the business was called or where they came from. Does anyone know? I would love to go to the restaurant that makes them and order some more! Thanks for any replies :)
No clue, but I wonder if they might be the same company that sells excellent tamales at the Scottsdale Farmer's Market and Downtown Farmer's Market on Saturdays. Bother farmer's markets are great fun, and with the weather so nice, I'd say it'd be worth it to visit and do some tamale testing!

The tamales at the Downtown market are from the Tamale Store. They can also be found at the Chandler Farmers Market on Thursdays. Don't know if that's the same vendor that was at the OStrich festival. The tamales are indeed excellent! ( I love the mushroom and cream cheese and teh green corn and cream cheese).
If your post doesn't turn up the source - try contacting the Chandler Chamber of Commerce. I believe they partner with the City on this event and they may likely know who the venodr was.
Perhaps El Bravo on 7th Street in Phoenix was the vendor. When you walk into the restaurant, one of the walls is filled with awards they have received for their tamales, particularly their green corn tamale.
Might be worth giving them a call.
