Need reservation for 8 people on Sat...

We are a group of 30-somethings (some former MTLers, some visitors), reuniting this weekend to celebrate a birthday. In the past we've eaten at Chasse et Peche, L'Express, Au Petit Extra, Pinxco (sp??) and many others, including the see-and-be-seen St Laurent scene, which we won't go back to. We're looking for a place with great food - probably French but could be creatively interpreted. In addition, it is a pretty lively group, so a fun atmosphere is certainly a plus. The challenge is that we need a reservation for eight people this Saturday. In terms of price, the places mentioned above are all fine - wouldn't be able to go to the absolute top of the cost. In terms of location, we are open to most things - Old Port, Plateau, downtown, etc, but probably want to stay on the island. Any thoughts for places that are likely to be able to accommodate our group?

Thanks for the thoughts! I have been to Holder, and liked it, but didn't love it - (. not a lot of soul, I thought). I had thought about Laloux, but had never heard of Pop, which might be a fun alternative!

I would say the following are good bets as they meet your requirements, both may require reservations, especially Pop.

      Old Montreal: Holder
      Plateau: Pop
Mile End: L'atelier [byob, very good]
