"Pay what you can" restaurants

I saw an article in the globe on a Montreal restaurant offering a pay what you can promo to their clients. Do you know of any Toronto restaurants that have caught on? I know of Oscar's in Barrie. Anyone go to Oscar's?

  1. Are you sure Oscar's is a "pay what you can" restaurant? I think it's one of the more upscale/expensive restaurants in Barrie.

Haven't been there but since I pass through Barrie a lot in the summer I try to pay attention and Oscar's does seem to be higher-end and they are offering a pay-what-you-want option, according to their website -

it's actually pay what you think its worth, not what you can....there is a BIG difference

There is a minimal charge. I can't remember exactly how it works. But I think when they give you he bill it has 5 options. $25, $30, $35, $40, $50. Something like that.

        2. I don't know if I like that idea...the accountant side of me says pay low.. the conscience part of me knows the margins aren't high and would pay more...

          1. Not exactly 'restaurant' but every Friday Dufferin Grove cooks and serves soup, a vegetarian or vegan entrée, a meat entrée, a side dish, a salad, and dessert - they all have recommended prices (topping $6 for an entree), but it is PWYC. I think its all organic too...

That is a really cool site and place. Too bad I don't live in TO.
