Surf and Turf-- Manasquan

Has anyone heard of or been to this resto? it is part Brazilian I believe, and is located on HWY 71 South in Manasquan.

  1. We have refrained from trying the place due to the fact that friends and family have panned the food. My dad, who was there prior to the "Brazilian" reinvention, reported on "pierogies that were burned on the outside and still frozen inside" and poorly cooked steaks.

    If you try it and take one for the team, I look forward to your report. If you decide to spend your money elsewhere, I won't blame you.

      Was hoping to hear something good, oh well. Guess I will check it out some time later. My daughter is in the business and none of the folks she works with know anything on it. That is not a good sign.

        I grew up in Manasquan and tolerate the property taxes for proximity to the ocean (in fact, I am about to go bodysurfing), however, the quality of the food served by restaurants in town is pathetic. I root for that new place to open that will be worthy, but typically I am just disappointed (Why can't Trinity and Langosta have a child and open in the Inn on Main space?). Sorry, I couldn't tell you much about Surf and Turf, but the anecodotal reports I have to offer suggest you would be better off elsewhere.

        BTW - We stopped at the Sand Bar for a drink last night and found the expanded bar to be a great improvement. When you factor in the BOGO coupon from the Mailer, it's not a bad spot for a quick bite.

          I also grew up in Squan. Moved to wall in 1982. What do you know about Leggetts now or the Main Street Saloon or what ever it is called now ? (I remember it called the Jackson House years ago)

            Leggetts, out back, for a beer and french fries halfway through a day on the beach. Other than that, we really don't go there.

            Main Street is presently O'Neill's. The food is pretty much standard pub fare, although the sushi rolls are edible.

            Maria's changed to cheaper cheese so the pizza is no longer as good as it once was.

            'Squan Tavern still adds too much sugar to the sauce so . . . . yuck!

            Bayou Cafe was downright awful the last time we were there - never again.

            Just thinking about the state of Chow in town makes me want to buy one of those condos by the boatramp in Keyport!

    2. I am a Manasquan resident, too (didn't realize there were some many of us locals here!) but since I wasn't actually born in Manasquan have been told I will never be able to be from Squan....

      I have yet to try Surf and Turf and from what I've seen neither has anyone else. We go to Asahi for sushi quite often and have never seen anyone in there. I did attend Chamber of Commerce meeting there (I co-own a shop on Main Street) and will say the bread was delicious.

      As someone "in the business" I do think this place would have a hard time even it was great. I agree with RGR said, the places in town are of middle quality but they are also quite boring. It seems that only the most basic of things sell. Ethnic is Italian or Irish food, and unless there is beer on tap an eating establishment has a hard time here.

      We do the majority of our business in the summer and are counting the days until Memorial Day. Summer keeps us going the other 9 months of the year. Though I wish the owners well, I am not sure Surf and Turf will last until summer.

        That's right we need more Italian Bars and Irish Restaurants.

          Yup. I hope you don't think I was trying to use the board to advertise. I figured there were a couple of places it could have been.
