March Break Lunch Quest - under $10, awesome soup or salad

HI Chers,
I'm off this week and have $10 burning a hole in my pocket and a metropass and a book to read. I'd like to find the best place for a soup or salad, take-out or eat-in, but if take-out, with somewhere nearby decent that I can sit to eat. I love a good lentil soup, a good tabouli salad, a good salad with beets, any good salad bar or hot table really. I've done Camros - that's a destination planned for later in the week. Am willing to travel, provided it's not too to walk from far from streetcar/subway

Ideas:
- Ravisoups
- Fresh Fast Foods - is it any better than Lettuce? cause i dislike Lettuce
- Big Carrot - done it once but definitely worth returning

anything I'm missing? What would you do?

and if you go after 5pm on Friday, 50% off.

There's also Esther's Soup Kitchen at Yonge & Bloor.

    2. Pho Mi Asia will provide a huge bowl of pho for $7. Lots of choices, and good broth. It's really meant to share. Go after 2PM so you will get a quiet table for reading.

      1. pho is not really my bowl of soup, personally, but thanks :)

        1. I definitely recommend Hibiscus in Kensington for their vegetarian soup and salad combo for $7.50 tax included.

i went with this! it was a a beet/tomoto sorta soup today and the saalds, particularly bean and tofu/basil/tomato were killer. thanks again!

          2. For about $9 plus tax and tip (slightly over your budget) you could have a great bowl of lentil soup and a falafel sandwich filled with beets & tabouleh (you need to specify what you want in your sandwich if you want more than the standard veg) at Mashu Mashu on Spadina (St. Clair West station, exit on Tichester).

ooh, not sure if it is on my route today, but i could try that another time...are they open evenings/weekends?

              1. re: LemonLauren

Yes, they are (their web-site indicates they are only open Saturdays on the weekend but I think that has changed). They also have a sign out front that they are open for breakfast now too (maybe only on the weekend, and I have no idea what they serve). I don't believe that they serve the falafel sandwich in the evening, however. But the soup is definitely available.

You can see their menu at www.mashumashu.ca
