can 2 people order 1 omakase sushi and 1 omakase sashimi at Zen? if at all permitted, will that be enough food for 2?

All the pieces in the sushi omakase are different. I think the sashimi may have some repetition which is more friendly to share. If you don't mind having to share one nigiri with another person then I think it'll be no problem sharing just one sushi omakase. Me, on the other hand, I would never let my SO touch my piece! It's mine!! ALL MINE! I think when you actually go and realize how yummy each piece is, it would be really unfortunate to have to share a piece.

I think two omakase will be enough food for 2 people - but for me I need just one or two extra items to complete the meal. I have a big appetite for a 5'2 normal weighing girl......... At least WiiFit says my BMI is normal!

I tried Mikado, Aoyama, Michi and Zen this past month...my verdict is that the first three serve good sushi, but I see no point of going anywhere except Zen which was by far and away superior to the rest IMHO. the sushi omakase menu was excellent and enough for one person

Wow! Thanks for that. It's great to have such a comparison.

i went to michi last week for lunch and thought the shari there was AWFUL. The sushi overall was pretty meh. I had beef curry too but thought that was meh too. Maybe the lunch rush isn't the best time to try michi

I love the Sushi Omakase at Zen but I would say it would probably not be enough for the average person.

Yes, I'm with you. I always order an extra roll or two to share with my DC, plus a salad each (I like the crab & tofu one).

I must agree too, we had to follow our Omakase sushi with a spider roll

I would like to know more about the omakase at Zen, I am planning to go sometime this week. Is it worth the $45 ?

it is $50 now, and it is worth it, the sashimi just melts in your mouth.

i've been a couple times and thoroughly enjoyed it. both times i went with a few other people and we each ordered our own sashimi omakase, and a couple sushi omakases to share. i found it to be a good choice when i want omakase without the cooked food (and in comparison, i've also been to kaji and loved it and am going back soon). haven't ordered anything else off the zen menu.

I usually have the sushi omakase, a cooked appetizer (I like the beef tongue) and mitsumame for dessert and that usually leaves me pretty full. The sushi omakase is very very good.

thx for the reply, how many pieces do you get when you order the sushi or the sashimi omakase ?

              2. skylineR33 Mar 16, 2009 05:36 PM

Yes, you can order sushi omakase and the other order sashimi omakase. I had sushi omakase at the bar of Zen before, they do not always deliver piece by piece, it depends on if they are busy or not. Especially if you order 1 sushi and 1 sashimi omakase, they know that you are sharing and won't serve by 1 piece at a time. I always order a bit more than just the 2 omakase.

Thanks for letting us know. I've eaten omakase there about 10+ times, and it has always been served to me piece by piece at the bar. Has yours been handed over to you all at once?

All at once and a few at a time, all combination.

Yeah, it depends on how busy they are.

Yes, but if you eat at the bar, then the omakase will be handed to you one piece at a time. Don't know if you were thinking you could share... If you eat at a table, then all pieces of your omakase will be brought to you at the same time, except for maybe the hand roll at the end (in the case of the sushi). For some people, this would be enough for two, but if my husband and I order omakase sushi at Zen, we also usually order two seaweed & tofu salads (one for each) to start, plus one or two small rolls at the end, which we share.

I am always full after omakase (which is pretty much what I always get) at Zen. I have a relatively small appetite, though.
