Kosher l'Pesach in Kansas City

  • 8

I am going to be traveling to Kansas City with some business clients (several of whom are Jewish) on Tuesday April 14th and staying until the end of Pesach. My clients are from Philadelphia, where kashrut is much easier than in the midwest. I don't think they understand the difficulties we may face. I live in Minneapolis, and have my home stuff all set up, but this trip is a wrench thrown into my plans, to say the least. I know when I asked our sponsors if they had thought of any arrangements, I was looked at blankly. The hotel and the company we are visiting may be able to get matzoh, but I am sure their commissary is full of kitniyot, even in their prepackaged things. Any ideas of where to get kosher l'Pesach food in Kansas City for three days?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

  1. chabad kansas city probably be the way to go

    1. what part of Kansas City are you staying in? The Jewish Community Center and associated organizations are mostly headquartered in Overland Park, near the Sprint Campus.

This link may be a way to start

      1. The is PAINFULLY old info...but it's all I have. I know someone who grew up in KC (in the 80's?) and she said Jewish life was very small. They had to travel out of town to get kosher meat. I think you had best get frozen meals shipped in, and ask for a fridge and microwave in your room.

There is definitely Jewish/kosher life in the KC area now. I have friends who live there, and he's the Rosh Kollel of a small kollel that does kiruv, education, and all sorts of other Jewish programming with the community. I am sure if you contact the JCC or the Kollel (do a Google search of KCKollel or JCC Kansas City), they'll be able to help you out. I spent a week there last summer, and while it's no NY, a frum Jew can definitely survive there; it's not the 80's anymore, for sure.

Shamash.org is relatively up to date - as another poster indicated overland park is will most of the kosher venues are - the is a gorcery store on Roe in Iverland PArk that has a kosher deli and decent kosher food selection - also there is a kosher subway but I do not think that will do you much good during Pesach -

          2. THERE IS AA STORE HEN HOUSE AT 11721 ROE ST. THEY WILL BE HAVING A TERRIFIC PASSOVER SECTION THEY ALREADY HAVE CHEESE AND DELI SLICES AND GROCERY GOODS AND YOGHURTS....IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO FIND OUT IF THEY HAVE PARTICULAR ITEMS YOU SHOULD CALL THE STORE DIRECTLY AND ASK FOR SOMEONE IN KOSHER 816-223-5344

            1. Thank you all for your suggestions. I will be staying in downtown KC likely at the Marriott (that is where we stayed last time), but Overland Park is only about 20 minutes away or so. I think we're going to drive from Minneapolis, so we should be able to go to Overland Park before checking in at the hotel.

              1. The Subway Kosher Deli in Overland Park had notices for a couple of place you might go. You could call them at (913) 451-9993 to ask the paticulars.
