NCAA @ Wachovia Center

Will be traveling from DC to Philly for Thursday's games. How is food in the arena ( as if I could imagine, but one can hope), and is there anything near? Will be hitting up Tony Luke's in any event.

  1. The food is terrible in the Wachovia Center. There is some decent beer downstairs at the Red Bell Brewery and Pub. Red Bell has some hot roast beef sandwiches that are passable if you are desperate, but I would try to eat elsewhere if possible. Tony Lukes is great. For a nice sit down meal very close to the venue, I recommend the South Philadelphia tap room.

Thanks for this rec. I'll be traveling up from DC as well for the game. I noticed you posted also about Rangoon. What do you think is the chance of meeting up with any Chowhounds for lunch on Wednesday at Rangoon......

Unfortunately Red Bell is no longer.. good beer at the Wachovia is hard to find. If you do not have a box at the Wachovia, I would highly suggest eating somewhere else. South Philly Tap room is a wonderful suggestion. For a sports bar, you have Chickie and Pete's across the Street and Benny the Bum's in the Holiday Inn. Or you can find John's Roast Pork and have one of the best sandwiches in Philadelphia (either the pork OR the cheese steak.) I would avoid Tony Luke's like the plague.

What do you mean by the "pork OR the cheesesteak?" ;-)

Ok, so this is the first I've heard of Tony Luke's not being any good. Did you never like it or do you believe it has gone downhill?
