Cool Cocktail Bar near the Beacon Theater

There is a cool old fashioned (neon martini glass outside) cocktail bar near the Beacon Theater, what is it called? Also any other suggestions for cool bars or cocktail lounges near 77th & Broadway? No frat boy hangouts!

'cesca is nearby at 75th (I think) between Broadway and Columbus. It's a restaurant but has a pretty large and lively bar area where you could also order food if you liked

If you're looking for cocktails, I'd suggest either West Branch or Compass. While both are restaurants they have nice bar areas. Bin 71 is more of a wine bar and gets very full.

Bin 71 on 71st and Columbus could be a good pick and right near the Beacon Theater.

Dollars to donuts you're thinking of P&G at 73rd & Amsterdam. Alas, it is no more. It may move to another spot - I hope so, it was a great place.

P&G moved to 78th and Columbus in the same building where the Evelyn Lounge used to be. It was never a cool cocktail bar, however. More a locals' dive.

But it does (or did) have a martini glass on its sign. Is the new one open yet?

I past it nearly every day for 3 years and I never really noticed. I know there was some sort of neon green shape on the sign which might very well have been a martini glass. Of course it might also have been a ship's bow for all I remember. I don't know if the new P&G is open yet, but not too far away from there, eighty one is known for making good drinks in the neighborhood.

You're welcome! Sorry I couldn't give you better news, though. P&G was my local bar for a couple of years. It was where I watched the Mets win in '86, so it will always have a special place in my heart.

Maybe you're thinking of Vermouth? It's been closed for many years. Or Evelyn Lounge? That too is closed

If wine works, check out Vai on 77th between Bwy/Amst. For cocktails, there are 2 brand spanking new joints, but the bars are usually crowded with diners. West Branch and Fatty Crab.

There's always Citrus as well.
