    1. I think you should do a search on here for "Athens" and you'll find many suggestions.

Thanks..very helpful ideas on the Board, but I just found out that my relative has been to the Last Resort and found everything too spicy..so I need to look for good, simple "diner" food

Weaver D's has excellent "home cooking", you might want to consider it, although its very small and sort of a hole in the wall type place, so an elderly person might be put off by that. Mama's Boy has similar type food like fried chicken and salmon croquettes...maybe that would work?

Fot what its worth, I think the title of your post is confusing...it sounds like you're not looking for the best food in Athens, you're looking for the best place to take an elderly relative who doesn't like spicy food.

            2. 5 & 10 is the nicest restaurant in Athens. It's reviewed in Zagat, and I believe the only one in Athens. Due to it's price range, you will probably not see a lot of college kids there. http://www.fiveandten.com/

East-West Bistro is one of my favorites, as is Last Resort Grill. If I had my choice, I would probably hit up Last Resort. Fried Green Tomatoes. Yum.

For lunch, Big City Bread (http://www.bigcitybreadcafe.com).

Breakfast - good luck on a really nice breakfast. For simple, straight forward and awesome breakfast, head to the Mayflower on Broad Street, right across from Campus. It's a greasy spoon, but so good.

I usually take my 85 year old mother in law to the Hilltop Grill. Their Gumbo is spicy but nothing else is and it's decent food nicely prepared. I'ts no 5 & 10 but for her and her siblings who drive in from Alabama to visit, it is what makes them happy. For not spicy more upscale I like the Basil Press and even Porterhouse for steaks and their she crab soup.
