[MSP] Early dinner this Friday near MacPhail

Some friends and I are going to an event this Friday night at MacPhail (501 South 2nd St., in Minneapolis), and we're looking for recommendations for an early dinner nearby (starting at 5 or 5:30). We're hoping for something we wouldn't usually get (so no chains), and not too pricy (definitely under $20 per person, under $15 if possible).

Thanks for your help!

  1. Spoonriver is just down the street and seems to fit the bill.

Harry's is around the corner, and while not great, it's been good though inconsistent in execution.

Also in the neighborhood: Sawatdee, Sanctuary, Cue, and a few other spots.

    1. Would you walk a mile for great food at a good price? If so, I recommend the happy hour at Vincent. It's a fabulous bargain. You can easily eat for under $20, with drinks - those who order with restraint could manage $15.

But it's over by Orchestra Hall, so you'd have a brisk walk or need to repark a car nearer to MacPhail. It's a smidge over a mile away.

Another happy-hour option: Hell's Kitchen. It's 2 blocks closer than Vincent's. Not sure how busy it is on a Friday - you might need reservations.

Across the river, you could try Punch or Pizza Nea for European-style pizza and great salads. They're also about a mile away - both are on E. Hennepin, 3 and 4 away from the river.

      1. Just on the other side of the river you should consider Brasa. Most items are served family style so you should be able to manage the budgets pretty easily. From there it is only 5 minute tops (by car) to Macphail. Otherwise, I would certainly second the recommendation for Punch in NE.
