Where to buy Corned Beef in Vancouver

newton111 Mar 13, 2009 07:04 PM

I need to find a place to buy "corned beef" that I can cook for St Patty's Day. Anyone know a place? Not like the already cooked stuff but the brisket in a bag with spices that I can cook.

IIRC there is a vendor at Granville Island who sells corned beef as you describe but he is not always there. Maybe you could call their admin office to enquire...

I have seen cryo-bagged corned beef at the Super Valu at Il Mercato in my neighborhood. I suspect you can find it at other conventional grocery stores too (Safeway, Superstore, etc.)

Yes, Safeway @ City Square has these. They're not very big though!

Thank you...I think I was trying to hard by starting with butcher's rather than the mass groceries like Safeway....

Thanks.....I saw him yesterday but his is a precooked NY style corned beef and what I'm looking for is a pre-brined brisket that I can cook

At Granville Island there is a man named Mike Vitow. He makes and sells J. Beethoven's corned beef. It is the best corned beef in Canada. It sounds like this is the same guy you saw, but maybe not because Mike Vitow definitely sells uncooked brisket that you must cook yourself. Try again, because he is the answer to your problem.

Stong's Market, Dunbar & 30th. About $10/kg. Looks like they brine their own.
